Hiking the Port Hudson trails

The last 2 weekends husband and I took some of the grandchildren hiking at Port Hudson Historic State Site, a civil war battleground out around Zachary and St. Francisville. There are hills (hard to find in this area of the country) and bridges and streams to explore. Although you're not supposed to get off the trail, we detoured a few times to walk over some fallen trees and down to a creek bed to let the dog swim. There are not many hikers, though this is our season in Louisiana for hiking. Tunica Hills  is another trail I really want to hike, but not during deer hunting season. At least that's what hubby says. There is supposed to be a waterfall along that trail. Maybe sometime before it gets too hot and muggy. Happy Hiking to everyone.

Cold Front

Rain last night...warm this morning. When I went out to feed the chickens, mosquitos were everywhere!!. This noon the skies are cloudy and the wind is gently blowing, but gusting every now and then. I love when a cold front is moving through. I enjoy seeing and feeling the weather change. It perks me up and makes me happy when a cool breeze is licking and rustling the leaves. I wish a nice strong cold front would whip in and swish all those pesky bloodsuckers away. The windows are open and all I hear are the sounds of nature. All is well.

Louisiana Book Festival 2009

Fall is here....festivals, fairs and fun. One of my favorites is the Louisiana Book festival. Full of books, authors, food and food. There are some strange sights and sweet sights, ordinary and too darn cute sights. Here is a sampling of some of the sightings of this year's book fest.

Dog Bed Cover

I have been wanting to make a cover for an old dog bed that has been chewed by June and patched. I got to do that this past weekend when we were deluged with rain. It turned out ok and was very easy to do, but I think I could have done without the buttons, because the very first time June laid on it she chewed one off.

Livingston Parish Fair

Husband and I had a ball with our grandkids and children at the annual Fair. We had corn dogs and funnel cake, nachos and of course cotton candy. The kids took a ride real horses. All the lights and action was exciting, not to mention all the neat carnival rides and games. Rain was threatening all evening, but we miraculously missed getting soaked. It was a neat evening and everyone enjoyed themselves.
