The last 2 weekends husband and I took some of the grandchildren hiking at Port Hudson Historic State Site, a civil war battleground out around Zachary and St. Francisville. There are hills (hard to find in this area of the country) and bridges and streams to explore. Although you're not supposed to get off the trail, we detoured a few times to walk over some fallen trees and down to a creek bed to let the dog swim. There are not many hikers, though this is our season in Louisiana for hiking. Tunica Hills is another trail I really want to hike, but not during deer hunting season. At least that's what hubby says. There is supposed to be a waterfall along that trail. Maybe sometime before it gets too hot and muggy. Happy Hiking to everyone.
I live in Louisiana on 6 acres with my husband, 2 labs, & 2 cats, and a few chickens . My interests include gardening, scrapbooking, sewing, and cooking.

Cold Front
Rain last night...warm this morning. When I went out to feed the chickens, mosquitos were everywhere!!. This noon the skies are cloudy and the wind is gently blowing, but gusting every now and then. I love when a cold front is moving through. I enjoy seeing and feeling the weather change. It perks me up and makes me happy when a cool breeze is licking and rustling the leaves. I wish a nice strong cold front would whip in and swish all those pesky bloodsuckers away. The windows are open and all I hear are the sounds of nature. All is well.

Dog Bed Cover

I have been wanting to make a cover for an old dog bed that has been chewed by June and patched. I got to do that this past weekend when we were deluged with rain. It turned out ok and was very easy to do, but I think I could have done without the buttons, because the very
first time June laid on it she chewed one off.

Livingston Parish Fair

Husband and I had a ball with our grandkids and children at the annual Fair. We had corn dogs and funnel cake, nachos and of course cotton candy. The kids took a ride real horses. All the lights and action was exciting, not to mention all the neat carnival rides and games. Rain was threatening all evening, but we miraculously missed getting soaked. It was a neat evening and everyone enjoyed themselves.Wednesday, September 16, 2009
Miracle Girls’ Birthday
The twins were 3 months premature 3 years ago. They both survived and are thriving today thanks to many prayers and our Good Lord. We had a great time at their 3rd birthday party last Saturday. The girls had lots of friends and family attend. Their dad smoked a pork roast and we had pulled pork sandwiches and delicious baked beans. We had to leave early and didn’t witness the big fiasco with the piƱata game. However, we heard about it later….poor Emma accidently hit Audrey in the eye with the stick. All ended well and they had a good haul of
loot from their presents.

Labor Day Weekend
Camping in Florida again. This time with my son Kelly and his family. My daughter Emily and her children stayed in a hotel, while we camped in the camper. My husband and I were supposed to get there early Friday to set up camp. Toward the end of our 6 hour drive, I looked at the shadow of the camper on the side of road and saw something flapping on top. I thought it was a tarp Kelly had used to cover a small leak we had on the roof. I mentioned it to Dan and we kept on going. When we arrived at the campground we realized it was the rubber cover on the top of the camper that was flapping and just about shredded 1/3 of the way back. Of course it's not under warranty, so we threw a tarp over it and tried to enjoy the rest of the evening. As we were sitting outside waiting for everyone to arrive, I heard a dripping noise coming from under the camper. I though maybe the air conditioner was dripping or the hose to the camper and I asked Dan why the tire was wet. After a little inspection, he opened the camper door and it was flooded inside. Earlier in the day, Jasper (our 3 yr old grandson) was in the camper and tried to turn the water on in the bathroom sink. Unfortunately he left it on with the stopper in and hence the flood. We drove on over to Wally World and bought some groceries and a shop vac. Back at the campground we sucked up all the water we could and put up groceries. By that time I was exhausted. Then the kids showed up and we went on to have a wonderful weekend....not counting when Catherine (our 5 yr old granddaug
